I'd like to apologize once more for the delay.  I kept running into snags with getting the map editor ready for the update.  I also caught a few more minor things with TA in the process that won't be visible to you as users.  This is also the first build of TA built on my new work PC.  Yay!

If any of you are playing GC2 on Windows 98, ME, or 2000, if you could try out the map editor even if you don't plan to use it and see if it works for you, I'd appreciate it.  I'm sure that some of you on Vista will want to use it so I'm sure that I'll hear from you.

Some of you have been reporting AI fleets with ships that have negative hitpoints.  I had a debug message put in that would pop up a windows message box if the game detected it, but it was popping up behind fullscreen windows and made the game appear to be frozen, so I removed it.  So, if you notice a fleet with negative HP (appears to happen after a battle), please note down the name of the fleet, save the game, and then try to find a recent save game from before the battle to send in so that we can try to reproduce it here.

As a reminder, please make sure to zip your save games before sending them in, and unless you actually can't start the game, e-mail bug reports and crash logs to gc2bugs@stardock.com so that you save the support people the trouble of forwarding them to me.

Also, I forgot to enable custom maps so you won't be able to load them into Twilight.  If you really want to try it out before next week, you might be able to get around it by making your own tournament and putting it in the tournament directory.

+ NEW: Map Editor
+ NEW: Added option to enable/disable tech stealing
+ NEW: Added buttons to Lease/Maintenace screen to toggle between listing ships and improvements on the maintenance part

+ FIXED: Bug where ships could get stuck on asteroid fields

Regarding the beta testing of the Drengin planet AI...are they supposed to be ONLY building those slave canyon thingies? It makes it really easy to diplomatically get everyone to do a hostile doggie-pile on the Drengin, but so far, that's the only building I've seen. Sometimes they just don't build on colonies at all.

Apparently, I misunderstood a post from Carielf on Jagged Knife. Said we wouldn't see the Jagged Knife again. Must have been referring to a text change.

Besides the text changes noted above, the mega events have been changed so if minor races in general aren't allowed, mega events involving minors (jagged knife, fundamentalists, vegans) won't happen.

Man, I wish I knew how you did it. I am struggling to keep my head above water financially in the early game. Where is the purchase-now/interest rate reduction?

If you have either of these techs, you get a 25% purchase-now reduction:

Culture ID="CutThroatCompetition" Korx
Propulsion ID="Hyperion Fabrication" Thalan

If you pick Neutral when you have Xeno Ethics, you get another 25%.

There is an additional 25% hidden in the tech trees somewhere.
If I ctrl-shift-r (gives all techs on the tree except Tech Victory),
I have a 75% reduction.

As far as the early game goes, I usually play as a Federalist with max. Economic ability (I think that is +50 total). I still have to virtually shut down at some point in the first two years. The Korx get Master Trade and +3 routes to start, and that probably makes the difference between survival and doom. Of course, if I get trapped in a corner of the map, and the Drath get a treaty with the Thalans before I can, it's all over anyway.......

I'm getting really annoyed at minor races appearing with endgame techs. The Korath Clan don't have lasers, or plasma weapons, or particle beams, or phasors, or anything remotely prerequisite like that.

Yet they've just killed off a minor race, and stolen DOOM RAY from them. This completely unbalances the game, and it is really not fun. All the work I've done to get and maintain a tech lead, and they just pick up an endgame weapon like that.

It's really not fun at all.

i would suggest turning off minors then. I personally dont mind it,cuz it adds a twist in my games but thats all individual prefences i guess. Besides, if u would of taken out the minor, u could of got Doom Ray instead, so its first come first .... Kill?

well either way, good luck in the next game..

Hey guys, I've been trying to download TA in Stardock for a while now and it keeps popping up saying that the beta I am trying to download doesn't exist. Anyone else get this? And if so, how did you get around it?
on Feb 19, 2008
Many people have reported that in the last couple of days. Several people have mentioned speaking with the devs and have received assurances that it will be fixed in the next day or two-today, if I remember correctly, though as it's only 5:30am EST I wouldn't get your hopes up for being able to download it in the next couple of hours.

I'm having problems launching the game.

first off.. after updating the game thru Stardock, it says I can update it again back to 0.96a(b)004 from 0.96a(b)006. If I click the update button again, the numbers switch places as to what is installed and the available update version.

I've tried running the game from both versions and it crashes right after clicking 'play' on the TALaunch.exe menu.

Anybody else having this problem?

I went to play TA yesterday and I noticed that the human race started with a military production of -10. Is it suppose to be that way?

Many races got given a penalty now as well as their bonuses. Look at the Alterians and their -1 speed.
