I tweaked the connection code today, and we also got the in game chat overlay running today, although it still needs some work.  If you'd like to try it out, follow these instructions:

1) Close Demigod if it's running

2) Download http://sd.stardock.com/impulsereactor/testchat.zip

3) Extract the files and copy them to Demigod\bin.  You may have to reboot before replacing the files if they're locked.

Hit Shift+Tab to unhide the chat window.  It'll use your windows user name for now, although it will eventually use your player name from Demigod.  The chat room is #demigod on irc.stardock.com.

1. Make my chat handle be my profile name and not my computer name Oops didn't read close enough, you are aware of this

2. The checkbox keeps the chat channel always on top but it seems to prevent me from doing anything within the game

3. I'd also like to be able to resize it and move it wherever I want if possible

on Feb 23, 2009

1) Shift tab should also close the window

2) Scrollbars don't work only buttons

3) skin looks nice - just the @ of the operators are out of place.

4) needs to have the basic features of clients like battle.net or gpgnet added eventually (watching player profiles, personal messages, friends and clan support etc.)

5) the fade in effect is fast enough to be not annoying , overall it feels very responsive.

Unfortunately the chat overlay forces me to write in all caps, regardless of whether or not caps lock is on

The lower left corner of the chat overlay resizes by dragging the bottom right corner. The bottom right corner also correctly drags the bottom right corner.

What version of Windows are you using and what is your OS language?

If you hold down shift do you get lower case letters?

on Feb 23, 2009

typing a line starting with a "/" will disc and reconnect the client to the irc server

It looks neat as hell, I noticed though that if you force focus it, you were not able to press any buttons in the menu, I would really like to have this open during my game instead of the in game chat, would that be possible?

Windows XP Professional, English, sometimes.  And yes, I checked if caps lock was on when the bug was occuring .  I exited Demigod and tried again, and it worked just fine.  I tried starting Demigod several times, experimenting with starting with caps lock on or off and changing it after entering chat, and I can't get consistant results .  The bug happens sometimes but not always, even if caps lock is off when I start up Demigod and the chat.

on Feb 23, 2009

during a game I lost connection to the server in mIRC and as it turns out via the overlay as well - I think my connection was stuck for a second or so as Demigod stopped at exactly the same time for a short while. The overlay needs to notice that I lost connection and automatically reconnect.

Adding this to the /bin folder, prevents me from playing demigod.  After placing this in the .bin folder, I can launch demigod but only a blackscreen is displayed.  This occurs in windowed and full screen mode.  I re-downloaded demigod and tried it again, again failed for me.  I then removed the two files and verified the download to get the missing file and demigod again worked perfectly.  Let me know what info you need for troubleshooting.
